UPC is an acronym that stands for Universal Product Code presented in the form of a scannable barcode. While not exclusively standardized, the UPC symbol is generally used throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many other countries across the globe. This code is used to track retail items and most commonly consists of twelve digits.
The UPC number will be located below the bar code on the packaging of an item or the back cover of a book. The entire UPC number includes the digits to the left and right of the lines. Review the Locating Product Identifiers page for more information about finding specific codes and unique identifiers. Also see the Locating product identifiers page for items that are missing this important identifier.
