An Order ID is a unique number Amazon assigns to every order placed on its marketplace. No two orders share the same Order ID. Sellers use Order IDs to look up order details, track shipment status, cancel orders, generate reports, and communicate about specific transactions.
The Order ID also serves as a privacy measure - it replaces the buyer’s name as the primary identifier when handling orders, ensuring that personal information is not exposed unnecessarily during order processing and communication.
An Order ID is a unique alphanumeric identifier that Amazon generates for every order. Key characteristics:
The Order ID format is typically a three-part numeric string (e.g., 111-1234567-1234567).
Clicking on an Order ID in Seller Central opens the order detail page, which displays:
| Information | Description |
|---|---|
| Order date | When the buyer placed the order |
| Order status | Pending, Unshipped, Shipped, or Cancelled |
| Product details | Items ordered, quantities, and ASINs |
| Shipping information | Shipping address, method, and tracking details |
| Payment data | Item price, shipping charges, and fees |
| Fulfillment channel | Whether the order is fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) or by the seller (FBM) |
| Seller memos | Any notes the seller has added to the order |
Order detail pages are available for both FBA and seller-fulfilled orders.

To cancel an order:
Orders can only be cancelled before they have been shipped.
For seller-fulfilled orders:
Order IDs appear in Amazon’s downloadable reports, including order reports, settlement reports, and payment transaction reports. These reports allow you to cross-reference specific orders with financial data for accounting and reconciliation.
When communicating about a specific order through Amazon’s Buyer-Seller Messaging Service, the Order ID is the standard reference identifier. It ensures both parties are discussing the correct transaction without exposing personal information.
The Order ID is displayed on the Manage Orders page in Seller Central (Orders > Manage Orders). It appears in the order list and on each order’s detail page.
No. Once Amazon assigns an Order ID, it remains the same regardless of the order’s status or any changes made to the order.
No. The Order ID is Amazon’s internal identifier for the transaction. The tracking number is assigned by the shipping carrier and tracks the physical package. Both appear on the order detail page but serve different purposes.
Yes. Both FBA and seller-fulfilled orders use the same Order ID format. The fulfillment channel is a separate field within the order details.
Yes. You can search by ASIN, SKU, buyer email, product name, date range, or order status in the Manage Orders page. However, searching by Order ID is the fastest way to find a specific order.
