Amazon Prime Day 2019: Dates and Prime Exclusive Discounts Announced
Stay on top of the latest e-commerce and marketplace trends.
Amazon Prime ‘Day’ has not been confined to one day since the first two years of its inception. Amazon Prime Day 2019, the e-commerce leader’s fifth annual global shopping event, will take place across a span of two full days this year — July 15 and 16 — and will be the longest Prime Day in the company’s history. The first two years of its existence, Prime Day was 24 hours long and has gradually increased to be 30 hours, then 36, and this year will last for 48 hours, beginning at midnight on Monday, July 15.
The event is exclusively open to Prime members, Amazon’s loyal customers who receive free, two-day shipping, video and music streaming, exclusive in-store deals at Whole Foods, free audiobooks and magazines, access to specific brands and deals, Prime Wardrobe, and more as part of their Prime membership.
According to Feedvisor data, nearly half (47%) of current Prime members have made a purchase on a previous Prime Day, demonstrating that this high-value audience is composed of frequent online buyers, regularly taking advantage of the benefits outlined above that they receive with the $119 annual subscription fee.
Amazon is referring to the 48-hour shopping event as “a two-day parade of epic deals” and claims that it will feature more than one million deals globally, including the biggest Prime Day deals ever on Alexa-enabled devices. Boasting exclusive product launches, celebrity brand collaborations, and can’t-miss entertainment performances, Amazon is pulling out all the stops to ensure this Prime Day is their most successful one yet.
What’s New This Year?
Prime Day 2019 will be the first shopping event where Amazon is offering its one-day shipping option. Amazon has drastically expanded its one-day selection and delivery areas that offer the program and they already have more than 10 million items available for one-day delivery.
One-day shipping may be the additional incentive that prospects considering joining Prime need in order to join the membership program. Amazon mentions that the membership program is rapidly evolving to “predominantly” one-day delivery and notes that members can receive their Prime Day orders on the day of their choice with Amazon Day.
Amazon is also featuring Prime Day Launches, where it will be rolling out new products exclusively for Prime members, for a limited time. The company announced a Prime Day Concert that will take place on July 10 and feature performances by Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, SZA and is presented by Amazon Music.
Additionally, Amazon has introduced Prime Exclusive Discounts where you can choose to extend a discounted price on to the customer. The product will display strikethrough pricing and the shopper will see a savings summary in search results and on the product detail page, such as “You Save: $12.50 (15%) as a Prime Member.” These products will also receive a specific Prime Day Deals badge and you can submit discounts up until July 5, 2019.
Below are the requirements to participate in Prime Exclusive Discounts:
- You must participate in Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).
- The product must be in new condition and have at least a three-star rating or no rating.
- The Prime Exclusive Discount needs to be at least 10% off the non-member, non-promotional price and at most, 80% off your price. For a Prime Day discount, the discounted price must be at least 20% off your price.
- The Prime Exclusive Discount must beat the lowest price in the last 30 days.
- The product cannot be offensive, embarrassing, or inappropriate and needs to comply with Amazon’s product review and pricing policies.
Lastly, Amazon will be releasing new featured Lightning Deals, with exclusive pricing on top brands. Amazon advises Prime members to check back regularly throughout the two-day period because these special deals will have limited quantities of the featured products.
Customers in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia, and for the first time, the United Arab Emirates, will be eligible to participate in Prime Day.
Although Amazon Prime is nearing its fifteenth anniversary, Prime members are still an extremely lucrative audience for Amazon — 95% of current Prime members are likely to keep their membership and 75% search specifically for Prime-eligible items across the platform. The Prime Day period poses significant potential for you to capitalize on the buying habits of these frequent shoppers and leverage the increase in overall sales and traffic to your advantage.
